Catherine Bernard, MD, CMO

Dr. Catherine Bernard, MD, CMO began practicing emergency medicine at Aspen Valley Health in 2002. She has spent her entire career in Aspen, moving here after earning her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio in 1999 and completing her residency in emergency medicine in 2002 from Christiana Care Health Services in Newark, Delaware. Previously serving as Chief of Medical Staff from 2015 to 2023, Dr. Bernard is now the Chief Medical Officer at Aspen Valley Health, a position she’s held since 2023. As an emergency medicine doctor, she sees people of all ages with all types of conditions. Her parents were both educators, so she treats each interaction as an opportunity to teach her patients about their illnesses, what they need to do to get well and best practices for maintaining their long-term health. Dr. Bernard says she couldn’t have asked for a better place than the Roaring Fork Valley to live, work and raise her two sons. She loves the climate and the cultural and outdoor opportunities that Aspen offers. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, snowboarding, yoga, painting, writing and playing her harp. She is also an avid gardener.
