Kevin Bartel, DO

Dr. Kevin Bartel joined Aspen Valley Health as an anesthesiologist in 2024. Dr. Bartel started at the Hospital after completing his residency in anesthesiology at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in 2023, where he served as chief resident. He also completed an internship in internal medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Aurora and graduated cum laude from Kansas City University with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2020. Dr. Bartel is passionate about creating a safe and comfortable surgical experience for patients from pre-op to recovery. He helps patients manage perioperative surgical pain by employing advanced regional anesthesia techniques that provide superior pain management and reduce the need for opioids following surgery. A member of the Aspen Anesthesia team, Dr. Bartel works at Aspen Valley Health and the Steadman Philippon Surgery Center in Basalt. He earned his BS in Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2009. Dr. Bartel did not pursue his medical degree right away, however, instead taking time to explore other places and careers before committing to the rigor of medical school. During this time, he spent a year teaching English in China and subsequently traveled throughout Asia with stops in India and Nepal. Additionally, before studying medicine, he worked for a technology start-up in San Francisco. He is excited about working at Aspen Valley Health and living in Aspen. As a foodie, he is impressed with the valley’s dining choices. His outdoor passions include mountain biking and ski touring in the backcountry.
