Birth Center
Welcome to Aspen Valley Health’s Birth Center
The Birth Center at Aspen Valley Health is designed for a memorable birth experience for new parents, those who are expanding their family, and friends and family who will share the experience. Mothers are provided with patient amenities from the early stages of labor through delivery and recovery. Partners have a comfortable place to support, rest and await the arrival of their newest family member.
Women who have their babies at the Birth Center benefit from:
- Low nurse:patient ratios (often 1:1) during labor and delivery
- Personalized care for all new mothers and their families
- State-of-the-art pain management—an important component of the birth experience. Aspen Valley Health nurses are familiar with a variety of alternative pain management techniques, and the anesthesia department is available around-the-clock for those desiring epidural anesthesia.
- Support from our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and lactation counselors

The Perfect Setting for Your Experience of a Lifetime
The Birth Center includes: five single-occupancy labor, delivery, and recovery rooms with therapeutic whirlpool tubs; four single-occupancy postpartum rooms; an antepartum room for observation prior to active labor; and a large centrally located special care nursery with an isolation area.
Each room was designed to provide parents and families with a spacious, comfortable, home-like environment, yet at the same time accommodate all of their medical needs. In addition, a family waiting area accommodates families during your stay. The entire department is self-contained, thus providing patient safety, privacy and security. More importantly, our staff’s philosophy about the birth experience empowers mothers and enables them to make choices that best meet their needs.
Childbirth Education
At Aspen Valley Health, we prioritize education at every stage of the childbirth experience. Prior to delivery, our Childbirth Education series empowers expectant parents to feel confident before their little one arrives. Our knowledgeable staff provides comprehensive resources and support, including regularly scheduled Childbirth Education classes, led by certified lactation consultants. We are proud to offer these vital classes free of charge.

We are a Designated “Baby-Friendly” Facility
Of course a birth center is going to be baby friendly. But being awarded the “Baby-Friendly” designation means meeting the specific criteria identified by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc., the U.S. authority for the implementation of a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals that offer an optimal level of maternity care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. Aspen Valley Health was one of the first hospitals in Colorado to achieve this designation.
